Student or professional in healthcare delivery or public health, SKAO has several opportunities for you to contribute your skills or to learn more about health care delivery in a developing country.  We provide health volunteering and internship opportunities in partnership with the Ghana Health Service (Awutu Senya East Municipal  District of the Central Region ) and private health institutions in Ghana.  There are positions available for volunteers or interns who would like to work in or learn more about areas such as:

In addition to opportunities in direct healthcare delivery, SKAO offers positions to work in public health, working towards better access and health awareness in the Central Region .  The public health team is involved in several projects, including giving educational talks at local schools on health topics including HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, and performing research projects on various public health topics.  Research projects are always changing based on the timelines of specific projects as well as funding.  The research projects that the SKAO Public Health team is currently working on are:

*Assessing the impact and effectiveness of malaria educational talks in local communities and schools.

Healthcare and public health volunteers or interns are welcome to come any time of year.  We typically ask for at least a four week commitment.

If you cannot find the health internship or volunteering opportunity that you are looking for on the website, you can request for a specific opportunity and we will do our best to find you a placement that will satisfy your interests.  We will also gladly accommodate any professionals with specialized skills that can help us accomplish our mission.


Requirements for Healthcare Volunteers and Interns:

* Fluent in spoken and written English
* At least a first year student in medical or nursing school, or other medical certification such as EMT, phlebotomy, etc.
* An understanding of global health issues is highly preferred
* The flexibility to contribute to different activities depending on the changing needs of the clinic, hospital, etc.


Requirements for Public Health Volunteers and Interns:

* Fluent in spoken and written English
* Must have, or working towards, a Bachelors degree (or equivalent work experience) in Public Health or related fields.
* Ability to adapt to the ever changing tasks and demands of the project Preferred or Beneficial 
* Knowledge of diseases: communicable and non-communicable Comfort with public speaking 

* Knowledge of global health issues
* Experience in community organizing
* Are self - reliant, adaptable and resilient 
* Are patient and cooperative 
* Have a passion for sharing your knowledge and skills
